The bishop, who spoke with grieve expressed worry that urgent action needs be taken, said the villagers too are battle ready to fight back as measures that would forestall further shielding of innocent blood.
He cautioned that the people of Enugu state have had enough of the attacks and would no longer tolerate action from the herdsmen as mechanism for self defense.
The bishop urged government to intensify efforts in manning the country’s borders with the drive to arrest illegal immigrants who disguise as Fulani herdsmen.
He advocates for a government position to enact a law that will put a check on the movement of herdsmen and their cattle in pasturing as well as making sure the flock does not encroach into people’s farmland and private properties.
Series of calls have gone up for government speedy intervention in the Fulani herdsmen unnecessary killing of innocent citizens, only time would tell if President Muhamadu Buhari would yield to this renewed calls as the wise saying goes, ‘a Stitch in time saves nine’.
