Nigerian military announces surrender of more Boko Haram terrorists

Apart from the recent arrest of Khalid al-Barnawi, the leader of Ansaru terrorist group in Lokoja, Kogi State, the Nigerian military has confirmed that more terrorists have been arrested while other Boko Haram members have also surrendered to the security agencies.

Two sons of the presiding pastor of the Independent Baptist Church in Calabar, Rev. Nicholas Wayih, have been killed by gunmen.

Rivers police link pastor’s death to herdsmen

THE Rivers State Police Command has attributed the death of a cleric, Pastor Geoffrey Ogagaghene, and six other persons to Thursday’s raid of Ohali-Elu town in Ogba/Egbema by a group of armed men suspected to be herdsmen.

The command disagreed with reports that 16 persons were killed during the raid by the herdsmen, saying that seven persons died during the attack.

Police Jobs: NPF records 15,000 applications in three days

Over 15,000 candidates have so far applied for enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force, it was learnt on Sunday.

Ekitigate: Army fires Momoh, ex-spokesman, others

The Nigerian Army Council has retired two senior officers, Brig.-Gen. Aliyu Momoh, who was indicted in the conduct of the 2015 elections in Ekiti State; the former spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Olajide Laleye, and other officers.

It was learnt on Sunday that the retirement of the senior officers was in connection with the recommendations of the panel set up by the Army authorities to look into allegations of professional misconduct against military personnel in the conduct of the June 14, 2014 governorship poll in Ekiti State and the 2015 general elections.

Displaced persons resort to food theft

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Borno State has said that Internally Displaced Persons are now stealing foods in houses in the state capital.
The Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri on Sunday.
Abdullahi said the command had so far recorded 10 complaints of food theft by residents of Jidari Polo area in the state capital.

Fuel scarcity likely to end in May –Marketers

                                             
Contrary to the pledge by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, that lingering fuel scarcity in the country would end on or before Thursday, April 7, marketers and depot owners said on Sunday that consumers might have to endure inadequate supply of the product till May.
The minister had initially given May as the most likely date for the fuel scarcity to abate but was forced to recant and say the situation should normalise latest by Thursday following criticisms from different segments of the country.

Ogun Former Governor Olusegun Osoba dumps SDP, Again defects to APC

Eighteen months after defecting from the All Progressives Congress to the Social Democratic Party, a former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba,  has  on Sunday announced that he had returned to the APC.
Speaking with journalists after a closed-door reconciliation meeting with APC leaders in his Bourdillon home in Ikoyi, Osoba said his conflict with the leadership of the ruling party was over.
