Today, we will be discussing on Senator Emmanuel 'Andy' Nnamdi Uba as a candidate who has declared his intention to run for the Anambra 2017 gubernatorial seat.
Senator Emmanuel Nnamdi 'Andy' Uba was born on December 14, 1958. He had his Secondary School education at the Boys High School, Awkunanaw, Enugu, where he obtained his SSCE. He proceeded to Concordia University, Montreal, Canada where he studied geological studies and graduated in 1984.
Andy also studied at California State University and later moved to Buxton University, United Kingdom where he got a Doctorate degree in Bio-Sciences in the year 1996.
Andy worked with Golden State Mutual Insurance of California and later established health clinics with his team in some parts of the United States. Andy, being a man that has lived much in the United States, was a member of the US Presidential Campaign of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998. The group were part of those that campaigned and made sure Chief Olusegun Obasanjo emerged President in 1999.
On Obasanjo's assumption as the President, he appointed Andy, Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties and Domestic affairs, the position he held till 2007 when he became the PDP gubernatorial flagbearer and won the 2007 governorship election of the state but was ousted by the court because the then governor HE Peter Obi was yet to complete his 4-year tenure he started in 2006, thereby, there shouldn't have been any governorship election in the state as at that 2007.
Andy also contested for the 2010 Anambra governorship election but lost, then during the 2011 general election, he contested to represent his people of Anambra South in the Senate and he won, he also won the Senatorial election in 2015. He has sponsored and co-sponsored many bills in the Nigerian Senate.
Andy is known to be a calm person and a cheerful philanthropists, who has contributed to the development of Anambra and Nigeria at large. He single handedly built the Department of Mass Communication building at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, named after his father.
In the upcoming governorship election in Anambra state, Andy is said to have declared interest and will probably jostle for the All Progressive Congress (APC) ticket with other APC gubernatorial aspirants.
