Health Watch: How To Be Free From Kidney Disease

Prof. Olugbenga Ayodele, a renowned Nephrologist at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has stressed the need for Nigerians to take care of their health, especially the kidney. The don, who spoke at a forum organised by the university’s Postgraduate School in Ogbomoso 

evening, advised Nigerians to always monitor their health. In his lecture, “Kidney Health and Failure: Taking your Health Seriously, ” Ayodele identified diabetes, hypertension, low birth weight and obesity as some of the modifiable risk factors of kidney failure. Ayodele, who is the Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, said the family history of kidney diseases such as diabetes and hypertension are some of the non -modifiable risk factors of kidney failure. He urged Nigerians to report at the nearest hospital for medical check-up whenever they experience loss of appetite, high blood pressure, nocturia, polyuria, oligouria, renal impairment, nausea and vomiting. Ayodele suggested regular physical exercise, drinking of plenty water, eating healthy, monitoring of blood pressure, immunisation and stoppage of smoking as panacea to kidney problems. Earlier, Prof. Adeniyi Gbadegesin, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, commended the Postgraduate School for organising the lecture.
