BoT members meet former president Jonathan over PDP crisis

Members of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Wednesday night.
One of our correspondents gathered that the meeting was the first the leadership of the party had with the former President since he was defeated during the 2015 presidential election.
The Chairman of the BoT, Sen. Walid Jibril, led members of the meeting to the former President’s house located at Maitama District.

Details of the meeting were still sketchy when Ashiwaju.org  correspondents filed in this report at about 8.46pm on Wednesday.
It was however gathered that the meeting could seek the intervention of the former President to end the crisis in the party by asking him to speak with the Ali Modu Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi factions of the PDP.
Meanwhile, the 12 members of the PDP Board of Trustees in the South-West have agreed to pick a consensus candidate for the position of the party’s national chairman.
the correspondent gathered on Wednesday that the South-West BoT members of the party met at the Umaru Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja to evolve strategies on how the zone could clinch the position.
Members of the South-West BoT, who attended the meeting were a former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran; a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Erelu Olusola Obada; a former National Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun; and a former Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope.
Others included a former National Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Chief Bode George; a former Speaker, House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole; and an Ekiti senator, Mrs. Abiodun Olujimi; a former Leader of the House of Representatives, Mulikat Adeola; Chief Aduke Maina and Chief CK Awoyelu.
Oyedokun, who chaired the meeting, disclosed to our correspondent in a telephone interview that Chief Bode Olajumoke and Chief Yekeen Adeojo, who could not make the meeting, sent their apologies
Oyedokun said Olajumoke and Adeojo, who could not attend the meeting, apologised and pledged their support for the meeting.
He said, “We met in order to find a common position in the quest of our region to clinch the position of the national chairman of our great party. We are appealing to our leaders to let the South-West produce the national chairman of the PDP because we have never produced the chairman before.
“We are planning to pick a consensus candidate if the position is zoned to the South-West. The two BoT members are in support of our meeting. They apologised and sent their words.”
It was learnt that the South-West BoT meeting came after a meeting by the whole body of the PDP BoT at the Umaru Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, earlier in the day.
At the earlier meeting, the members of the BoT reviewed the developments in the party and affirmed that the party should go ahead with its national convention scheduled for August 17.
