THE Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN in 19 Northern states and three Provinces of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG,  in Plateau State have visited the areas of killings of local farmers by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Plateau State to assess the extent of havoc. The groups used the separate occasions to commiserate with the victims and donated relief matrials worth millions of naira to limit the suffering of the Internally Displaced Persons,

IDPs, in some camps in some affected local government areas of Plateaus State. DISPLACED—Some Internally Displaced Persons (Idps)  The CAN group, led by its chairman, Rev. Yakubu Pam, did not only visit the numerous IDPs but said: “we were able to visit COCIN Church Gashes and Gashes District where the attack took place and hundreds of lives were killed. Since after the attacks no one was able to visit Gashes District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Council because of fear of insecurity, but the church was able to visit and great men of Gashes were still living in their father land, their God-given inheritance though their women and children were all at the IDPs in Jos and Barkin Ladi town.” Rev. Pam, who recently led a delegation of Northern Christian leaders to Aso Rock Villa to deliver a position paper to President Muhammadu Buhari, on the way out of the security challenges in the country, urged prayers for the region in particular and Nigeria in general. “Let’s keep praying for them and the entire Plateau State and Northern Ngeria by extension,” he urged. During the visits, the Christian leaders presented relief materials including food items and other essentials to the numerous displaced persons to ameliorate their sufferings in the various IDP camps where they are currently grappling with serious humatarian challenges. In a similar development, three Provinces of  RCCG making Region 8 Plateau Family with its headquarters in Barkin Ladi local government, also donated relief materials worth millions of naira to the IDPs in some camps in Barkin Ladi local government area. Presenting three trucks and two buses of assorted food items, clothing and sundry items to meet some of the needs of the people, the Pastor-in-charge of Region 8/SATGO, Pastor Sunday Akande condemned the killings and commiserated with the people and government of Plateau State over the sad event. He called on both the government and security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the carnage to avoid a repeat of such in the future and equally tasked all stakeholders to unite and address the security challenges head on as “any government that is not protecting its citizens is irrelevant.” Pastor Akande, accompanied by other senior pastors in the church, encouraged the people to be strong, adding that at the moment, the people needed basic things of life including food and shelter. He said: “That is why we are moved to make these donations at this point in time. This gesture is to cushion them against the hardship being experienced at the moment as Internally Displaced Persons. “We all know that it is not your own making that you are here; none of you is happy to be here. But because situation calls for it, we decided to come and identify with you. There is nothing we will give you that will be equal to what you have lost, but the little we have come with is just to support you.”
