Awka residents Protest Over Non Installation of Electricity Transformers

Scores of Residents and traders of Awka took to the street in protest against what they term as non installation of transformer by the Enugu Electricity Commission, EEDC.
The Electricity  consumers who spoke through the auspices of the Awka branch of Anambra state Traders Association, AMATAS women wing ended their peaceful protest at the the EEDC business office along Ziks Avenue, Awka .
The protesters who were seen carrying pla cards with different inscriptions like, "EEDC lift ban on transformers installation,  we are tired of darkness,  install transformers given to us by our governor ",among others.

Anambra Government Encourages One Child One Tree Planting Initiative

Anambra residents have been charged to plant trees as part of efforts to curb the menacing effects of gully erosion in the state.
They are encouraged to cultivate the idea of one child one tree planting initiave of the state government as plans to achieve the one million tree planning programme in the state.
Reacting to the initiative, stakeholders encouraged the residents to embrace tree planting as programme instituted by the state government to correcting the menace of floodding and erosion control in the state.

Obi of Onitsha Clears President Buhari of Nigeria’s economic woes

The traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe has absolved President Mohammadu Buhari of the current economic woes, urged Nigerians to rally round Him to succeed in his fight to restore the nation economic system.
Igwe Achebe made the call at his palace in Onithsa, on occasion to mark his 15th Ofala festival, called for collective zeal of the country to restore the nation economy.
The monarch, who noted that things went wrong because of the collective decisions made by the previous administrations, urged Buhari to consider the advice of many Nigerians on the way out of the current economic quagmire

Prevention of spread of Cholera and communicable disease through Open Defecation

Experts have charged some Anambra residents to refrain from the act of defecating in the public, as measures that would reduce the spread of children killer diseases in the state.
They cautioned against using the public convenient  as its widely practice in the rural areas and slum settlements , described the health hazard associated with open defecation as exterminator,  which could be prevented by keeping a healthy environment with constant washing of hands after toilet.
This was disclosed in this year EU/UNICEF hand washing day celebration in Awka, they charged people to maintain clean and healthy environment always.

Controversy Over Reality of Anambra Rice

Following the rumour making rounds about the reality of Anambra rice for consumption and barrage of media hype recorded without corresponding supply to meet up with the customers’ demand of the products, residents of Anambra have called on the state government to ensure farmers and millers are provided with adequate incentives to produce to enhance their production.
They expressed disappointment at the scarcity of the product from the designated outlets, urged millers and dealers to ensure the availability of the produce are sold are subsidized rate to enable equal patronage from the citizens of all cadre of the society.

Residents of Anambra state have described the dominance of poverty level in Nigeria as a result of corruption and lack of conscious political will of the leaders to salvage the country from economic dearth.
They ascribed the neglect been experienced in the hands of successive administration as an elusive impact, structured on self enrichment and corruption, as mechanism use to impede their delivery on the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals target, living the country economic fortune in despair.

Constitutional Lawyer Condemned Arrest of Judges

A constitutional lawyer in Anambra state, Okolie John-Akirika has faulted the arrest of judges by men of the department of security service DSS, said it contravene the constitutional provision that establish the National Judicial Council, body saddled with the responsibility of judicial matters.
He said the move by the men of DSS is unconstitutional and should be condemned by all Nigerians, charged the country security to ensure they operate within the confirm of the law that established it.

He disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent Bamidele Ajayi in Awka, notes the constitutional gap created by the action which ought to be corrected by the act of the National Assembly.

Poor services induce slump in local production of Rice

Despite the huge investments of successive governments coupled with the current interventions of the Buhari administration, Nigeria still cannot meet the demands for local rice consumption, as poor services by government agencies have induced a noticeable decline in rice production, while importation and smuggling are on the increase.
Nigeria abandoned local rice production by focusing and spending billions of dollars importing foreign rice until it was hit by acute foreign exchange scarcity. This has given rise to the consumption of local products in the country.
