Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has recorded a remarkable milestone at the 2025 Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Young Engineers Innovative Competition, marking a proud moment in the institution’s engineering history.

In what was the University’s first-ever appearance at the prestigious national contest, two teams from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Student Chapter, COOU earned their place among the best young innovators in the country. From an initial pool of over 20 university teams nationwide, only six progressed to the grand finale held on December 1, 2025, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. Impressively, both COOU teams emerged among this final six.

Leading the charge was Mr. Ebube Francis Obiadi, a 400-level Mechanical Engineering student, whose project titled “Vegetable Storage System” earned him the award of 2nd Runner-Up. His innovation stood out for its relevance in improving food preservation and reducing post-harvest losses.

Also flying the university’s flag was Miss Chidiebele Aniesi, a 300-level Civil Engineering student, whose “Smart Waste Bin” project secured a commendable 4th Place finish. Her work demonstrated the potential of technology-driven solutions in advancing environmental sanitation and urban waste management.

Their outstanding performance places COOU as the highest-ranked debuting university at the competition, significantly raising the institution’s visibility and credibility within Nigeria’s engineering community.

The University extends warm congratulations to the students and applauds their commitment, creativity, and resilience. Special appreciation also goes to their staff adviser, Engr. Dr. Ifeanyichukwu U. Onyenanu, for his guidance and mentorship.

This achievement signals a promising future for engineering innovation at COOU and reaffirms the university’s growing presence on the national stage.
