Umueri PG Commends Anambra-East Chairman For Carrying Out Free Medical Missio
The President-General Umueri General Assembly in Anambra-East Local Government Area of Anambra State, Amb. Dr. John Metchie has commended the Chairman of Anambra-East council area, Hon. Ifeanyi Chinweze for carrying out a 5-day free medical outreach in the council area.
Describing the 5-day free healthcare mission as a scheme designed to save lives and provide more access to comprehensive medical services in the grassoots; Metchie noted that what the local government Mayor did was in line with what Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo was doing in the health sector as evident in the upgrade of Umueri General Hospital, where the free medical outreach was conducted.
Metchie who praised Mayor Chinweze’s developmental strides, maintained that his administration has brought visible transformations in Anambra-East with Umueri community as a beneficiary. He said that the free medical exercise though capital intensive but the Chairman declared it free of charge for all and sundry irrespective of the treatments, surgeries and drugs involved.
The Umueri General Assembly President-General who also commended the State commissioner for health Dr. Afam Obidike for being part of the free medical mission, said his efforts in revamping the health sector can not be overemphasized because of the renovations and refurbishments of primary healthcare facilities across the 326 political wards of the state coupled with the building of new general hospitals in Anambra-North senatorial district, adding that Umueri general hospital also continued to receive government care and attention.
Amb. Metchie also extended gratitude to the Senior Medical Officer in charge of Umueri General Hospital, Dr. Chinenye John Peter Obi, who equally confirmed that all the patients who partook in the 5-day free medical outreach organised by the Anambra-East council chairman, were all treated free of charge including surgeries and drugs given to them free without any of them paying a kobo.
He said more of such exercises should be conducted regularly so as to take medical care to the poor and downtrodden in the hinterlands to enable them access quality and comprehensive healthcare services instead of patronizing quacks and unqualified personnel due to poverty and ignorance.
Metchie also extolled state government’s free antenatal and child delivery services, stressing that government’s social services and welfare schemes were indeed people-oriented while reiterating commitment of the Anambra-East Local Government under Hon. Ifeanyi Chinweze to the medical and health needs of the local people and thanked him too for sponsoring the free medical outreach which began on 2nd December and ended 6th December at Umueri general hospital.
