Arsenal Head Coach Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech will be sidelined for three to four weeks with a calf injury, Sky Sports reports.

Nigeria Moves Up By One Position In FIFA Raking

Despite the change in the team’s early exit from the 2016 African Nations Championship, the Eagles garnered 547 points, a difference of four points from the 543 points they had in February.
The Eagles are now 11th in the continental rankings, behind Cameroon, who are 61st in the world and 10th on the continent.
Nigeria have moved up one spot from 63rd to the 62nd position in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday. 
On the continent, Ivory Coast, who were ranked first in February, have dropped to the second place. They are behind Cape Verde, who occupied the second place last month. The Ivorians dropped eight places to become 36th in the world while Cape Verde are now 31 in the world after moving up two place from their 33rd position in February with 789 points.

Algeria, who were 36th in February, dropped another one place to rank 37th in March. They are still Africa’s third with 743 points. They are followed by Ghana, who remained where they were in February when they dropped eight points to sit in the 41st position. Tunisia and Senegal occupy the fifth and sixth positions on the continent with 609 and 603 points. They are placed 47th and 48th in the world.

Nigeria’s opponents in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Egypt, are ranked seventh in Africa with 589 points. The Pharaohs moved up two places from their 55th position in February.

The top ten in the world remained unchanged as Belgium are still the world’s best football playing team. The Belgians retained their 1506 points. They are followed by Argentina with 1457 points and Spain with 1374 points. Germany, Chile, Brazil, Portugal, Colombia, England and Austria, complete the top 10 in the world.

Anambra Students Call For Review Of State Scholarship/Bursary Board





 Students of tertiary institutions of Anambra State origin have called on the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano to consider reviving the state’s scholarship and bursary board. 
The Students made the recommendation to the governor in a communiqué drawn after a stakeholders meeting, and issued to journalists, saying that it is shameful that scholarships are almost inexistent in the state any longer.

Corruption embedded in world athletics – WADA





A  said Thursday that corruption was “embedded” at the world athletics body piling pressure on its new leader Sebastian Coe. The International Association of Athletics Associaions (IAAF) must have known about corruption orchestrated by its former leader Lamine Diack, it said. But Richard Pound, the former WADA president who wrote the report, said that Coe, who took over the IAAF in August is the best person to lead reforms of the world body.

CHAN 2016: Super Eagles, others aim high





Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles and 15 other countries’ teams will clash as the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) is scheduled to begin on Jan. 16 in Rwanda.
The tournament which will run from Jan. 16 to Feb. 7 is organised by the African Football Confederation (CAF), exclusively for African players who ply trade in their respective national leagues.
Rwanda, Gabon, Morocco, Cote d’ Ivoire, DR Congo, Angola, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Nigeria, Niger, Guinea, Zimbabwe, Mali, Uganda and Zambia are the 16 countries that qualified for the competition.
The 16 countries have been drawn into four groups of four teams each.

Super Eagle Skipper Osaze Regrets QPR Transfer





Nigerian International and Super Eagles striker Peter Osaze Odemwingie said his attempt to force a transfer from West Brom to Queens Park Rangers on the transfer deadline of 2013 was regreatable.
