ENSIEC recruits 12,800 ad-hoc staff, warns against activities scammers

No fewer than 12,800 ad-hoc electoral staff will be recruited by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) for the forthcoming Enugu State local government elections.

It would be recalled that ENSIEC had fixed Sept. 21, 2024, for council polls into the 17 chairmanship and 260 ward councilorship positions in Enugu State.

GOC 82 Division distributes educational materials to schools in Cross River

 


The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Hassan Dada, has distributed educational materials to selected schools at Biase Local Government Area (LGA) of Cross River State.

8th National Youth Festival: Team Anambra To Compete In 20 Sporting Events, Vows To Better Last Year's Record

The Anambra contingent to the 8th National Youth Games who departed Awka for Asaba on Monday,  9th September 2024 will compete in 20 sporting events.


The team which left the Archbishop Obiefuna Retreat Centre Camp comprised 124 athletes, and 49 officials 


 The Anambra contingent to the National Youth Games has departed Awka for Asaba with a contingent of 173 persons.



The festival would hold between Sept. 9 and Sept. 19 while the opening ceremony would hold on Sept. 11.


Anambra would take part in in 20 sporting events including Athletics, Para-athletics, Gymnastics 

Scrabble, Chess 

Table Tennis, Swimming 

Judo, Ncho/Ayo, Teackeando, Karate.


Others are  Weightlifting, Karate, Kungfu, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Cricket, Wrestling, Boxing and  Badminton 


Addressing the team before departure, Gov. Chukwuma Soludo encouraged the athletes  to do be worthy ambassadors of the state and do their best to make Anambra proud at the festival,


Soludo, who was represented by Nonso Anozie, his principal secretary, said a handsome reward awaits them while urging them to surpass their performance at the previous edition of the festival.


Patrick-Estate Onyedum,  Chairman Anambra Sports Development Commission thanked Gov. Soludo for his support and ensuring that talented youths had the opportunity to compete with their contemporaries.


Onyedum said the team was made up of athletes well under the age of 15 in line with the policy of development strategy of the state.


He expressed hope that Team Anambra would do well at the games.


Recall that Anambra won seven gold,  six silver and two bronze medals at the 2023 edition of the National Youth Games.

U.S. Election: 105-Year-Old Nigerian Veteran Politician Endorses Kamala Harris

A 105-year-old veteran politician and activist, Nonye Ezeayaeche, has endorsed Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s incumbent Vice President, for the upcoming U.S. presidential election.

The U.S. election is set for November 5.

Ezeayaeche, who was the oldest presidential candidate in Nigeria's 2023 general elections representing the African Action Congress, announced her endorsement at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.


She praised Harris for her education, experience, and support from millions of women and youths, asserting that Harris’s candidacy is backed by exceptional qualities.


“I am confident that Kamala Harris will win the election and become the 47th President of the United States. Her victory is assured,” Ezeayaeche stated.

2 Die in Ogun Road Crash

 The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun Sector Command has reported that two individuals died in a road accident on the Long Bridge of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

NGX Opens Week with N404bn Loss in 24 Hours

 


The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) began the week with a decline, as the All Share Index dropped by 0.72 percent to close at 97,881.75 points.

WASSCE REACTS TO RESULTS DELAY

 The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has attributed the delay in releasing the exam results of students in Ogun state to a technical problem. 


Ayobami Suberu, the Branch Controller of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for Ogun State, has disputed claims that the withholding of results for some public school students in the state was due to financial arrears. In a statement on Tuesday, Suberu clarified that the issue was caused by a technical glitch rather than any indebtedness by the Ogun State Government. Marketers Forecast N600/Litre for Dangote Petrol

 


Independent petroleum marketers in Nigeria anticipate that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery will price its Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, between N600 and N650 per litre once it hits the market.
