An Enugu State High Court has restrained a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ayogu Eze, from parading himself as the governorship candidate of the party pending the hearing and determination of a case filed by the plaintiff and the PDP governorship candidate for Enugu State, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
It also restrained the PDP from recognising or submitting the name of any other person other than Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Enugu State for the February 2015 general election.
The order was issued by Justice R. O Odogwu in Suit No. E/499/2014 with Senator Ayogu Eze and the PDP as the first and second defendants, respectively.
The order granted upon hearing the submissions of Ogochukwu Onyekwuluje with Tochukwu Maduka, counsel for the plantiff, reads:
The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday disowned Senator Ayogu Eze, saying his claim of being the party’s gubernatorial candidate, was false.
Similarly, the party also described as untrue the claim by Senator Ayogu Eze, that he won the party’s primary in the state.
In a statement signed by the party’s publicity secretary, Dr. Okey Eze, a copy of which was made available to Daily Sun, the party insisted that the primary election, which held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and which was attended by INEC and other stakeholders, which produced Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was the authentic one.
The Peoples Democratic Party has concluded its governorship primaries across the nation. Yes, the dust trailing the exercise has not fully settled in many states, but there is hardly any doubt over candidates that would fly the party’s flag in the 2015 elections. As in every election, while some are jubilating and beating their chests for emerging victorious, others have relapsed into melancholy and despondency. There are also those who are still day-dreaming that fate would bring back the hand of the clock.
However, in the frenzy, one state that comes to mind is Enugu State. Many would say that the state has become a flashpoint in Nigeria ahead of 2015 general elections.
In a new interview with Vanguard, star actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde said she's been tempted to cheat on her husband of over 17 years many times but never went through with it because of all she stood to lose. "Absolutely. I have been tempted many times to cheat on my husband by men I really liked. But when you think of what you stand to lose, the destruction of all you have labored to build, when you weigh all the options, you are left to conclude that it is not worth the trouble. I know some women will find this somewhat objectionable, but if they want to be truthful to themselves, they will agree with me that, as married women, we have all faced moments that I have just described.” Omotola said.
The National Bureau of Statistics on Sunday released the trade statistics for the third quarter of this year, stating that the country recorded a N359.6bn or 5.4 per cent drop in merchandize trade from N6.65trn to N6.29trn.
The bureau in the report attributed the decrease in trade to both a fall in the value of exports and imports in the third quarter relative to the second quarter.
For instance, the report a copy of which was made available to our correspondent, noted that while exports declined by N202.7bn or 4.3 per cent to N4.47trn, the country’s imports also dropped by N157bn or 7.9 per cent to N1.82trn.
Security situation in the region is one of the issues that will be on the agenda on Monday as President Goodluck Jonathan hosts his colleagues from West Africa.
Jonathan will be hosting the 46th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Abuja.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, on Sunday, the one-day summit would also review political situation in the region.
Abati said apart from receiving a briefing on recent developments in Burkina Faso, the summit will also elect the chairman of the body for next year.
President John Mahama of Ghana is its outgoing chairman.
The All Progressives Congress has pruned its search for Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s (retd.) running mate to three incumbent governors and a former one.
Ashiwaju.orgreliably gathered on Saturday that the leadership of the party has the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN); his Edo State counterpart, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole; and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, as well as former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on its final list of four.
It was learnt that the APC governors had demanded that one of them should be picked as the running mate of Buhari, who emerged as the party’s presidential candidate on Thursday.
Our correspondents gathered that Oshiomhole and Amaechi made the list because some leaders of the APC feel that South-South should produce the vice-president in order to cut down the votes of President Goodluck Jonathan, who is also from the geo-political zone.

The emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan and a former military Head of State, General Mohammadu Buhari (retd), as presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress respectively have set the stage for a political war among various ethnic and cultural groups in the country.
SUNDAY PUNCH enquires showed that while some of the groups have taken decisions to queue behind either Jonathan or Buhari, others are in the process of taking decision on whom to support.
This is happening even as some of the groups have, however, chosen to be neutral.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, on Sunday said despite the criticisms being directed at President Goodluck Jonathan, majority of Nigerians are aware that the Federal Government under his watch has performed creditably well. Abati made his position known in an interview he granted the Voice of America. He said it was on record that the government had turned the nation’s economy into the largest one in Africa.
