U.S. Congress moves to compel Obama to withhold Abacha loot for Boko Haram victims


Lawmakers in the Congress of the United States of America may soon vote on a bill that will allow President Barack Obama and his government to set aside all or part of Abacha loot recovered in the U.S. for victims of the Boko Haram insurgency.
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee who represents the 18th District of Texas, is sponsoring a bill, H.R. 528, which will allow the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to use money from the recovered Abacha loot that is in its
custody to provide relief for families of the abducted Chibok girls, PREMIUM TIMES correspondent in Washington reported.

Oil Crisis: Buhari demands immediate reduction in fuel prices

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari, has called on the Nigerian government to implement immediate price reduction on fuel products to reflect the downscaling in global oil prices.
Speaking through his campaign organization, the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, on Monday, Mr. Buhari asked the government to “stop stealing from Nigerians and allow them enjoy the relief that has come to consumers of petroleum products globally”.
A statement from the Directorate of Media and Publicity of the APC presidential campaign said it was disturbing that in spite of the fall in the global price of crude oil, Nigerians still buy petroleum products at pump prices as if the global price of crude oil had remained at $100 (USD) per barrel.
The statement said: “The current attempt by the government to deregulate the prices of some petroleum products has been completely compromised to satisfy few money bags to the detriment of the Nigerian people and the economy.

Saraki was stinkingly rich before he was governor – Counsel tells CCT


Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki had over $22 million, £12 million, €2.6m and about N4 billion in cash before he became the governor of Kwara State in 2003, his counsel, Paul Erokoro said during the cross examination of the first prosecution witness on Tuesday.
Saraki was also the CEO of defunct Societal Generale Bank of Nigeria (SGBN) which crashed about two years after he was elected governor.

HISTORY WILL BE RESTORED IN SCHOOLS - EDUCATION MINISTER

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, says the Federal Government is taking steps to restore history as a subject in primary and secondary schools’ curriculum.
Adamu made this known when he appeared on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum on Tuesday in Abuja.
He was responding to the criticism trailing the removal of history studies from primary and secondary schools curriculum which became effective from the 2009/2010 academic session.
“Somebody, who doesn’t know his history is even worse than dead. So, this government is going to bring back history.

REAL AMOUNT DIVERTED IN ARMS PURCHASE WAS $15BN, SAYS INFORMATION MINISTER

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has disclosed that the real amount misappropriated in the arms purchase is $15 billion.
Speaking at a town hall meeting organised by the federal government yesterday in Kaduna, the minister said revelations from the $2.1 billion arms scandal was just a tip of the iceberg.
He said those who shared the $2.1 billion meant for arms contributed to sending many innocent soldiers and civilians to their early graves.
