SUCCESSION WAR BREWS IN GOMBE EMIRATE

Less than 24 hours after the burial of the late Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Usman Abubakar, crisis of succession is already brewing among ruling houses in Gombe emirate council.
No fewer than seven persons are said to have started jostling for the royal seat including the late Emir’s sons, Sunday Newswatch reliably gathered.
The contenders are Mallam Zubra Yahaya Shehu, the first son of the Emir who is also the Tafida Gombe and a director in the presidency, Abubakar Shehu, the second son of the late Emir and the Santurakin of Gombe first son of the late Emir and a onetime local government councillor, Abdulkadir Abubakar, the immediate younger brother of the late emir and senior district head of Gombe, Buppa Hassan, Jalo Daudi and Barrister Zubari Umar, the Registrer Gombe State University, Alhaji Lamido Yuguda, the former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state.
A reliably source told newsmen that successor is likely to emerge from the family of the late Abubakar Umar, the eight emir of Gombe which Mallam Yahaya, Abubakar, Abdulkadir and Umar all belongs to the family.
Further investigations revealed that Abubakar, who is the Santurakin of Gombe was very close to his late father and was said to have been anointed to succeed the father.
According to sources, Santurakin Gombe is the heir apparent to the throne but what may count against him is the fact that he is in his forties and not yet married but has his late father’s blessings.
However, as the quest for the Emir’s hot up the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’adu Abubakar, was said to have given his daughter to him and the process may be hasten up for him to meet up the crucial requirement for him ascend the throne of late his father.
This, however, looks as an endorsement of Santurakin of Gombe by his father-in-law to be the Sultan of Sokoto to succeed his late father Alhaji Shehu.
Though, the process of selecting the 10th Emir of Gombe may suffer some little delay as the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Danjuma Goje, has abolished the kingmakers which would have been panel to select the new Emir and was further compounded with the death of the Waziri Gombe.
However, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo is expected to constitute another kingmakers or constitute a panel that would select the next Emir but a reliably source said the governor may just call for nomination and subsequently endorse whosoever that is nominated.
The members of the panel usually include the Waziri, Yerima, Galadima, Madaki, Ajiya, district head of Dukku and Chief Imam of Central Mosque.
