Anambra Legislature Lauds Obiano on Free Education for Persons Living With Disabilities

The Anambra State House of Assembly has commended Governor Willie Obiano for granting free and compulsory education from the primary to the secondary school level for persons living with disabilities in the state.
The lawmakers gave the commendation yesterday during plenary. They extolled the governor's concern on the plight of disabled persons and his resolve to ensure that these category of persons were not denied that which is most fundamental to their well being.
Moving the motion on commending the state governor in providing functional education for persons with special needs on the floor of the house, the lawmaker representing Anaocha 1 State Constituency Hon.Ejiofor Ebele Leonard explained that it was pertinent to commend the state governor for giving disabled persons sense of belonging. Hon.Ejiofor stated that Governor Obiano not only granted free education to the physically challenged in the state but also made a policy statement that special schools for the disabled would be constructed in each of the three senatorial zones in the state.
The lawmaker who made reference to chapter 2, section 3 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, maintained that the aforesaid section of the constitution stipulates compulsory education for aĺl and sundry adding that the governor's decision revealed that he was indeed serving the interest of the entire state citizenry irrespective of status or social standing.
Also the lawmaker representing Anambra-East State Constituency Hon.Pharm Obinna Christ Emeneka in lending his voice to the discussions concerning the award of free education to the physically challenged in Anambra state , Hon.Emeneka admonished the Governor Willie Obiano to be consistent with his result-oriented policies and programmes on education as well as avoid distractions .
