Senatorial primaries: Gov. Aliyu, Zaynab, Halidu win PDP ticket in Niger

Governor Babangida Aliyu
Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State and Senator Zaynab Kure on Sundaywon the primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2015 senatorial election for Niger East and Niger South districts of the state respectively.
In the result released in Bida for Niger South Senatorial District primaries of the party, Senator Kure defeated the immediate past Niger State Chairman of the PDP, Mohamud Enagi, with 328 votes to eight votes, while Aliyu got 281 votes to clinch the ticket for Zone B, as against 86 votes polled by his rival, Adamu Idris Kuta.
Honourable Halidu Agwara was elected unopposed for the Niger North Senatorial District of the state.
Senator Kure would be having a third shot at the Senate having been elected on the platform of the PDP in 2007.
Governor Aliyu was said to have joined the club of governors seeking to actualise their senatorial ambition in 2015 on the PDP ticket after the seat was zoned to his Chanchanga Local Government Area on party arrangement last month.
Although the zone had earlier endorsed him for the sole candidature of the party, the arrangement was challenged by Kuta, a former Federal Permanent Secretary, who obtained form in a bid to stop the governor.
However, the result of the party primaries showed that the governor had won with wide margin of votes to silence his challenger within the party.
