ANAMBRA GOVERNMENT PARTNERS ITALIAN NGO ON HEALTH DEVELOPMENT

 In a quest for a healthier Anambra, the state has collaborated with an Italian non-governmental organization Opera Don Bonifacio Azione Verde (ODBAV) to further improve, develop and provide free excellent Medicare to her citizenry.
The state government trough the health ministry in Awka, welcomed the team of ODBAV professionals which was led by a Nigerian born catholic cleric, Rev Fr Boniface Duru and assured them of a happy and interesting stay in the ever peaceful state.
In his introductory address the leader of the team Fr Duru explained that Opera Don Bonifacio Azione Verde was a health inclined non governmental organization in Rome, Italy that is focused in giving attention to the sick and as well developing the educational aspect of underprivileged individuals by providing scholarship and other learning materials to them.

He revealed that Opera Don Bonifacio Azione Verde has been on tour to Nigeria for over a decade and in the process promoted education, improved healthcare and encouraged self subsistence among members of the communities that play host to them explaining that the visit was necessitated by the excellent work the governor was doing in the state especially in the health sector
His words “ we are a health group that has been coming to Nigeria for the past 14 years now, you will agree with me that no Nation can function very well without the working society being healthy, so good health determines production that is why this association gives attention to the sick”
“We also offer scholarship to children who cannot afford the cost of education, currently we have over 500 children enrolled in our scholarship scheme and presently we are building a University of Science and Information Technology in Imo state” he expounded
In his response the commissioner for health Hon Dr Joe Akabuike welcomed the team and assured them of maximum protection as the state Governor Chief Willie Obiano had made security of lives and property his top priority hence the relative peace and security enjoyed by the state citizenry
He expressed delight over the visit and pointed out that such visits was a prove that the government of the state had created an enabling environment for business to thrive explaining that the government of Anambra state was structured and programmed to operate on four pillars which include agriculture, oil and gas, trade and commence and industrialization.
He further revealed that the team will be touring three senatorial districts during their 9 days stay in the state and in the process administer drugs and treatments at no cost
His words “they will be visiting one hospital each in all the three senatorial zones of the state, the first will be the Nanka general hospital in Anambra south senatorial zone, followed by general hospital Ogidi in Anambra central zone and Aguleri hospital in the north.”
