Ohaneze Ndigbo Youths demand unconstitutional release of  Sowore and other political detainees





The South eastern Nigeria apex socio cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo youths wing worldwide has reproved the efforts of an arm of the executive that disrupted the peaceful protest of #Revolution Now exercise, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to mediate and  effect speedy release of the convener Omoyele Sowore.


The Igbo apex socio cultural group denied the claims that the group intention was to upset the government agenda, said the authority should read between the lines and decode the true messages behind the nationwide agitations.

The Ohaneze youths leader disclosed that the nation is in dear need of national conference where most of the questions itemized by the Africa Action Congress presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election, Omoyele Sowore are considered for implementation.

Speaking with Newsmen in Awka, the national leader of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth wing Worldwide, Ambassador Dr. Arthur Uchenna Obiorah said "Leaders should try to read between the lines to know what the protesters are asking for in the general interest of the country"".

"We request an unconditional release of the Presidential candidate of the Africa Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore whose detention by the men of the Department of Secret Service DSS, has fallen below international standard that allows freedom of association, expression and assemblage of men of like minds’’.

Amb. Obiorah asserted that the clamour for Revolution Now by Nigerians should be well thought about, said it is an avenue where Nigerians explore to pour out their minds  on the state of the nation by protesting what they feel is not right within the context of the universal coverage.

 He said the nation needs an urgent attention to address what he described as imbalance being experienced in some sectors of the economy, according to him necessitates the demand for recent protest by concerned citizens of the country.

Ohaneze Ndigbo youths leader appealed for respite, calling on President Muhmadu Buhari to reconsider the earlier request by the Southern and Middle belt leaders, calling for restructuring of the country, that will devolve powers to the federating units.

Ohaneze Ndigbo Youths leader however submitted that the Igbo apex socio cultural group parent body had also raised a suggestion for a restructured state where every component unit of the federation will develop at it’s own passé, adding that the recent insecurity challenges being experience across the country will be corrected if the nation is restructured.

While speaking on insecurity challenges in the south region of the country,  Amb. Obiorah condemned the kidnapped of the traditional ruler of Obom Autonomous Community in Agbogugu, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Sunday Orji and his wife, who were kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen.

He also called for the speedy arrest of the killer of Reverend Father Paul, a catholic priest, who was shot dead along Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu local government area of the state.

Reverend Father Paul Offu’s  death came barely five months after Rev. Fr. Clement Ugwu, the parish priest of St Mark Catholic Church, Obinofia Ndiuno in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the State was killed.
