Akwa Ibom NDLEA Arrests 244 Drug Suspects within a year

 


The quest to tackle drug abuse seems to be gathering momentum as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has  arrested 244 suspected drug traffickers between July 2020 and June 2021,  in Akwa Ibom state .


The state Commander Obot Bassey made this disclosure in Uyo, the state capital, revealed that they have secured 21 convictions within the period under review and  recovered 600.0668 kilograms of illicit drugs seized.


Commander Obot made this public as an event to mark this year International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (UNGA) in Uyo, noted that the command was able to rehabilitate six persons all male and have 23 cases pending in different courts.


The NDLEA state commander disclosed that the available data before them revealed that the command cumulatively recorded more seizures and arrests within 2020/2021 against the successes they recorded in previous years.


Speaking on their drug demand reduction counselling  cases, she said the command was able to successfully counseled 57 male and 6 female who have turned new leaf on their approach to life.


The commander commended the support and their working relationship with the state government, seized the occasion to draw the attention of government to urgent needs of the command to enable them discharge their duty more effectively.
