Tension in Imo Assembly as Speaker Suspends Five members


There was panic at the Imo state House of Assembly complex in Owerri, the state capital, on Thursday , following the suspension of the minority leader Anyadike Nwosu, the former house leader Uche Ogbuagu and four others by the speaker, Paul Emezim.

The speaker in an emergency plenary which held under a tight security, suspended the lawmakers indefinitely for what he called " unparliamentary conducts."

Apart from the minority leader and the member representing Owerri North, Philip Ejiogu who are of the Peoples Democratic Party, other lawmakers suspended by the speaker, other four are members of the ruling All progressives Congress APC.


Emezim, also dissolved all standing committees of the house and removed the Chief Whip of the house, Authur Egwim who represents  Ideato North state constituency and replaced with Obinna Okwara.


The development caused panic in the complex as the security aides to the speaker had to shoot into the air to guard him to make his way out of the premises, amidst protests.
