GMO by Ogbuagwu-Ngbuka-Amazu Road, Gov. Obiano Shows Commitment to Okpoko People

We take pride in what we see happening in major roads in Ogbaru LGA particularly the GMO by Ogbuagwu-Ngbuka-Amazu road, a road that before the inception of Gov. Willie Obiano's administration was a subject of political razzmatazz used in deluding the people of Okpoko and Ogbaru during election. The then governors Chris Nwabueze Ngige and Peter Obi at different times had made promises and gave assurances to the people that they will construct the road but all the promises turned out to be part of the cosen Okpoko and indeed Ogbaru suffered before the willingly working governor, Chief Willie Obiano, whose love for Ogbaru people know no bound stepped into the plate. If there is one road that is dear to the people of Okpoko in particular, it is GMO by Ogbuagwu-Ngbuka-Amazu road and one can report that work is aggressively going on on the road now.
GMO by Ogbuagwu-Ngbuka-Amazu road is very strategic as it serves as a by-pass to Onitsha-Owerri road for those coming from Ogbaru hinterland and Asaba (Niger bridge head) without having to pass through Upper-Iweka. The road crisscrosses the whole of Okpoko Ward 6, the Ward that has the largest number of polling booths in Anambra state, 54 polling-booths in all with over 37,600 registered voting population. The road covers the whole of East Niger Layout, comprising Nkutanku and major markets are attached to it which include; Ogbo-efele market, Ogbo-rod market, Ogbo-plastic market, Ogbo-electronics market, Ogbaru fruits and vegetable market and Ogbaru Industrial Harbour Layout. If there is one factor that will determine 60% of Okpoko vote, it is GMO by Ogbuagwu-Ngbuka-Amazu road.

A subject of political deceit over the years, but Gov. Willie Obiano sees no sense in playing politics with a road as important with multiple direct bearing on a number of springboards that affect the locals for which the road serves. The people of the area including Hon. C.C. Arinze (Ogbuefi) the immediate past Deputy Chairman of Ogbaru LGA, could not hide their joy when the Special Adviser to the governor on political matters, Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe and Senior Special Assistant to the governor on political matters, Comrade Arinzechukwu Awogu cut short their tour of Okpoko to savour the road. Work will also begin on a number of internal roads in Okpoko.

Political position/power, I think, is best felt when it is used to better the lots of the people not when it is used to suppress and oppress the people. I pulled the Special Adviser to the governor on political matters and other top officers of government to Okpoko for them to have a feel of the pitiable state of Okpoko, the abandonment, the impassable roads, the daily anguish the people of Okpoko are living in; and all on the entourage of the Special Adviser were almost moved to tears with the subhuman level at which residence of Okpoko live. Beyond Obodoukwu road and Ede road in Okpoko, there is no road again, merely looking at Obodoukwu road and Ede road a visitor may be tempted to conclude that all is well with Okpoko, but beyond the facet lies incredulous story of neglect, institutional abandonment and a people forgotten. But all these will change as Okpoko is to witness a massive face lift, construction of inter-street roads in Okpoko is to commence soon.

We will be inspecting Ossomala-Umunankwo-Mputu-Ogwuaniocha road and Ossomala-Ogwuikpele road by next week to ascertain the level of aggression being applied by the construction companies on the roads because impressive impacts must be made on the roads before the rains set in. It shall be well with Ogbaru and those that live in her!
