The new  national U-18 boys and girls teams coach Christopher Okoh has admitted that his players are under pressure to perform in the 2017 FIBA Africa 3×3 Championship in  Bamako, Mali.

Okoh said this in Lagos on Monday after their training ahead of the  competition holding from September 23 to 25.

“I believe every team going  there (Mali) wants to win  gold and  we have the  same target. So, we will focus on winning the championship.”

Okoh is optimistic that the winning mentality of the Afrobasket champions, D’Tigress and silver-winning D’Tigers would spur on his players.

“We want D’Tigress and D’Tigers’ victories to rub off on us and we are hoping that we will win  too,” he said.

The coach, who  has won the men and women’s league titles as an assistant coach,  said his appointment would  give him an opportunity to showcase his talents.

Okoh said, “I’m  excited and I think it’s an opportunity to showcase myself as a coach. I will work with the players to get better and put them in shape so that we can represent the country well  in Mali.”

The team are expected to  depart the country for Mali  on Thursday.
