Local government elections will not be conducted anytime soon in Edo state pending when a total overhaul of the system is completed.
Governor Godwin Obaseki disclosed this in government house, benin city during a valedictory session held to mark the end of the present elected local government leadership in the state.
He stressed that the local government is the closest tier of government to the people at the grassroot and must be overhauled to meet up with its statutory responsibilities.
He appreciated the council members for their services to the people of the state and wished them well in their future endeavours.
Their tenure end on Friday.
