Anambra state leader of Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) and its standard bearer in last year’s governorship election, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, yesterday commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his rapid and well coordinated response to the Ebola virus scare in the country.
Ezeemo, who spoke at Umuchu in Aguata Local Government Area of the state, said it showed he has the health of Nigerians as a priority.
He noted that the approval N1.9 billion fund to fight the dreaded Ebola virus in the country was a worthy and well-thought-out decision to help tackle the challenges posed by the virus.
He equally commended “the speed at which the Federal Ministries of Information and Health Ministry responded to the impasse in the country.
His words: “We are blessed in this country with lots of intellectuals and experts in different works of life. I was impressed with the speedy response of the government to the health challenge currently faced in the country. I can say we are fast developing and also growing fast to meet the basic practice of showing concern to issues that affect our subjects in place of laisser-faire attitude to issues affecting the common people.”
Ezeemo called on various organizations in the country, such as the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Red Cross Society, NGOs and health workers to engage in massive health awareness programmes, especially in urban areas, cities and rural suburbs with high population, to drum the need for prevention of the spread of the virus.
The PPA leader reminded mothers of their duty to inculcate high level of personal hygiene at home.
On the just concluded governorship election in Osun State, Ezeemo said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has shown that fair and level playing ground was obtainable in the country’s electoral process, adding that peoples vote will always count.
He hailed the performance of the PPA candidates, Mr. Ganiyu Abiodun Lawal and his deputy Mrs. Grace Mabayoje Ojofakuade in the just concluded oshun state election, saying that it showed the party’s strength to go far in subsequent elections.
